Florence

Day 4 we spent in Florence.  We woke up early and headed out to get in line at Galleria degli Uffizi, the main museum in Florence.  We were there before it opened, so once they opened the doors we didn’t have a long wait.  This museum showcases art from Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Botticelli, Raphael and many others.  It was interesting walking through the museum and seeing such amazing artwork from so long ago.  They didn’t allow pictures to be taken inside the museum, so I have no pictures to post.  We did pass this going to the Duomo.  It’s a replica statue of David, this is where the original once stood, but it is now in a museum.

After the museum we headed over to the Duomo and got in line to get into the church.  It looked long, but only took about 5-10 minutes to get in.  Here are some photo’s.

After we checked out the Duomo we walked outside and saw that there was a line to climb up the Dome, but not the bell tower right next to it.  So, we decided to pay and walk 414 steps of the bell tower to see Florence from another view, it was totally worth it!

This was from the first platform, so 1/4 of the way up there.

We found a place to eat lunch and hang out for a while resting our tired legs after climbing.  We hit the huge leather market there and went through an indoor food market as well before heading over to another church.  This church was called Santa Croce, it is known for having the tombs of Michelangelo, Donte and Galileo.

Later that night after dinner we ventured back out up to a park about 20 minutes from where we were staying.  Dan read about it somewhere online and it said it had the best views of Florence.

That ended our time in Florence and the next morning we headed to Rome.  Rome was most definitely my favorite place out of all the places we had been to.  So amazing, I will post about it very soon!

  1. Great photos. Florence is—hands down—my favorite city in the world so far. I love everything about it and I'm so eager to see it again. I'm also interested to see other Italian cities to see if they'll trump Florence as my fav!
